Memories from a Busy Day and Other Times

Prompts for Sunday's Scavenger Hunt are double, Friday, memories, busy day and where I stand.

1. Double

This weekend Joe and I helped my brother, Joe, with some remodeling work. If you have a Joe in your family, you probably already know what characters they can be. Both my Joes are like 'joke' without the 'k'. In this photo they look a little mild, but they are usually double trouble!

2. Friday

This trailer doesn't look like much, but it is sturdy despite the fancy contraption Joe rigged up to keep the fender from flapping. He was getting it ready to do some heavy hauling on Friday.

3. Memories

We had one little snow, so I grabbed the camera and took a few quick photos. We don't get many snows around here and I don't have photos of most of them, so I wanted this one for my 'memories' sake. It was a bonus to have found this nativity scene to include in the photo.

4. Busy Day

My nephew is helping with the remodeling job. It was a busy day for him. He was working hard taking up the old tile.

 5. Where I Stand

If you are a good hunter, you can see what I saw from where I stand or stood. It was almost dark when I took this photo. The deer were in the yard not far from my brother's house. They must have thought they were hidden from view, because I got six or eight shots before they moved on. Too bad I only had my Canon and not a rifle!

Hope you enjoy my interpretations of this week's prompts. I would love for you to leave a comment. Now I'm off to look at your photos and leave a comment. Have a great week.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 9-7-14

This weekend Joe and I went to Silver Dollar City with friends--no children. Don't get me wrong, the highlight of my summer is spending time with the grandchildren and taking them places, but it is a new experience to go with friends. The only ride we rode was The Flooded Mine, and that was just so we could say we rode something. Most of the day, we walked around looking at the crafts demonstrations and listening to music shows.

SDC seasons passes are under $100 each and you can go anytime you want without paying a dime. Most years, each season pass you buy gives you passes to get a friend in free five times during the year as long as you purchase it online in December of the preceding year. I buy three passes each year, so have free passes to get whomever I want in free. We are only out the gas and the cost of a motel or campground if we chose not to drive home that night.

We were surprised to find that Exile and Juice Newton were preforming the evening show at no cost other than our tickets, which we didn't have to pay for because of my seasons pass. The first three photos are of the concert in Echo Hollow at #SDCAttractions.

Now for my Scavenger Hunt photos.

1. Color

Saturday it was raining, so we toured Marvel Cave, which is including in the park entry at no extra cost. It had been several years since I went in the cave. This was the first time since I got my Canon. I had trouble with some of the photos since I did not want to use flash. (Bats live in the cave and we were cautioned not to photograph them with flash.) A few of them came out OK, though. The spotlight on the waterfall inside the cave changed colors. I love the color that showed up in this shot.

2. View

This is a different view of the falls. I can't decide which one I like the best.

3. Stroll

To stay with the theme, I used this photo for stroll. We had to walk down many, many stairs during the tour, then back up quite a few at the end of the tour before we got on the tram that took us to the top again.
4. Outfit

At the end of the day, we sat in Echo Hollow and watch the concert. From where we sat at the beginning of the show, I could see Juice Newton wanting behind the wall until she was announced. The first thing I noticed was the way she was dressed.

Juice's shoes are said to be her signature. The were the completion of her outfit.

5. Block

Since I am weird and have to do things in numerical order, my block photo had to be last, even though it occurred earlier in the day. The tram that pulled us out of the cave ran via cable using a block and tackle system. One tram went down the hill in order to pull us up to ground level. This wire fence was around the tram so no one would fall out going up at such a steep angle. I like the view of the woods I saw outside the fence as we ascended from the cave.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8-10-14

Welcome to my version of Scavenger Hunt Sunday. Today's photos came from my archives. We have been busy this week cleaning out storage. Judging by our current progress, the job will be finished in "two weeks" (movie quote courtesy of Joe), or at least before the first snow--I hope!  My camera is feeling lonely. OK, here goes...

1. Bathroom Selfie

I couldn't decide which I liked best, so I posted them all. My grandson was trying out a new hair style and look after his bath several years ago. I happened along just in time to take the shots for him. I hope it counts as a selfie!

2. Hop, Skip or Jump

This guy hopped inside the dish, but he couldn't jump out. This was one trick he should have skipped!

3. Creative Angle

The angle I was 'creating' was the letter 'A' but decided to add upside down to it just for fun.

4. Box or Package

We use boxes of all shapes and sizes to add interest to our antique show booth. Many of the purchases are packaged up and given as gifts. This type of items is popular because they are small, yet bring back memories of fun times together for families.

5. Unfocused

Even though this image is a bit out of focus, it's obvious that most of us wouldn't want to get close enough for a good look.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks scavenger hunt. I would love for you to leave a comment. If you would like to see what photos others used for the prompts, just click the link below.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8-3-14

Joe and I spent the last few days working in our out of town storage to organize and get ready for a huge clutter sale. I took my camera and the list of prompts for this week's scavenger hunt, but never took the camera out of the case. Saturday was my last chance to get the photos I needed.

As we worked, we were plagued by wasps. Joe found the nest and doused it with white gas (for use in lanterns) because we had no wasp spray. I have never seen such an effective remedy! Immediately wasps fell from the nest. They didn't move. at. all. It killed them dead. Wasp spray or even gasoline doesn't stop them all immediately. There are always some persistent ones that have to be finished off 'by foot.'

Caution: If you use this method, do not light a match or smoke!

As soon as Joe confirmed the danger of being stung was passed, I got my camera and went for some documentation. I took three great photos, then looked in the view window.

[NO CARD IN CAMERA]

was all I saw. I went to my purse to get a card.

NO CARD IN PURSE--NO CARD IN CAMERA BAG--NO CARD ANYWHERE!

When you see a shot, don't hesitate, just take it. You never know when an emergency might arise and you desperately need such a photo! I had to look through a lot of random photos to find some that were appropriate for this weeks hunt.

1. Two Things

This picture was taken on mother's day before last. My mother and I share two things--we both wear glasses and we both have a square chin. A third way we are alike is neither of us are comfortable having our picture taken. I have finally realized the stress we feel being in front of the lens contributes greatly to the 'bad pictures' we take. I am working on getting over it. My daughter, in the middle, has never minded being in front of the lens.

2. Animal

This animal, my daughter's cat, likes to stand in the window and watch the people who are on the outside. Does that make her a reverse peeping tom?

3. Handwriting

This concrete structure is all that remains of the old blue bridge that used to carry motorists across Highway 75 just south of Okmulgee, OK. It was once in the Guinness Book of World Records. A railroad bridge ran under it and a dirt road under the railroad bridge. At the time, it was rare to have three roadways crossing the same area.

The new highway runs parallel with the old one. The structure that is left is covered with hand writing. The graffiti pays tribute to a soldier who lost his life in service for our freedom several years ago. The young man's childhood home was very close to this bridge.

4. Frozen

I walked into the bedroom to find this old air conditioner blowing hot air, but with 3/4" of ice on the coils. It was frozen up because it was low on freon. Joe was already asleep in the other room, but luckily I remembered how to fix it. I turned it to fan only rather than cool. Less than ten minutes later the ice was gone and I was able to turn it back to cool and it worked just fine.

5. Nap Time

One of the antique shows we set up at earlier this year had a dining area. No one seemed to be eating in it, but when nap time came, this guy knew right where to go!

That's all for today. Thank you for stopping by. I would love for you to leave a comment to let me know you were here. If you would like to participate in Scavenger Hunt Sunday, just click the like below.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 7-27-14

Hi! I'm glad you stopped by to visit today. I have shared this post to a link party--Scavenger Hunt Sunday. Each week we get five word prompts and are challenged to post a picture(s) to fit each prompt. Some take a little more imagination than others. My photos for this week are below.

1. Eyes

This pair of bloodshot eyes represent a long day of work at the Antique Show in Springdale Arkansas. I'm sure they will look even worse tonight after packing up from the show.

2.Upside Down

Bridges are one of my favorite things to photograph. In this shot I like how its shadow is upside down in the water.

The water was way down when we went fishing last week. (see the fishing pole on the right?) We were able to stay in the shade under the bridge to fish. We didn't catch anything, but the shade was nice. Other times when we have been here, the water has been too high to get a good photo of the underside of the bridge. This day I was able to get a good shot of its reflection upside down in the water.

3. From Behind

This piggy bank was in the pottery store at Silver Dollar City. I took pictures of it from several angles. It worked out good for my from behind photo.

4. Sunshine

I couldn't resist this shot of the sunshine peaking into the room under the curtains in our motel room. We were a bit crowded with three adults and six children.

The sunshine was quite bright the day I took this photo. I like the way the shadows accented this shot despite the brightness of the day.

5. Cup

Today my youngest daughter turns nineteen. This cup was from her wedding shower last summer. My friend hosted it. The theme was a tea party. She did a great job of decorating for it.

I hope you enjoyed my post today. I would love for you to leave a comment. Thanks again for stopping by.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 7-20-14

Vacation is supposed to be about relaxing and having fun, right? We 'worked hard' at making it just that. We did have fun, but had to come home to relax. I will have to 'work harder' next time to get it right. In the mean time, I'll share some of the fun with you. I had to dig into my vacation files from a several years back for some of them.

1. Full

My family loves to vacation at Silver Dollar City in Branson MO. After a long day at the park, playing, riding rides and watching crafters at work, it is nice to sit in Echo Hollow and listen to music performed by a great group of singers and musicians before we make the walk back to our car.

The music show takes place in a large amphitheater. The acoustics are great. We got a great surprise on our visit this weekend. Each night after the music, we were treated to a fireworks show. We were able to sit comfortably and watch. The sky above us was FULL of "bombs bursting in air" as the star spangled banner played in the background. I can honestly say it was the best fireworks presentation I have ever seen.

This is one of my favorite shots. The grand finale filled the sky with bursts of color and light.

2. Donut

There was not a donut to be found in the park, but I would have chosen one of these pecan rolls anyway. I did resist the urge--maybe because I was trying to be good, or it could have been because I had six grand kids with me who would have wanted a share. Mostly, though, it was because I was broke. Maybe next time. Sigh...

3. Bug

This picture was taken a couple of years ago. My youngest daughter had sniffed the flowers at SDC when she was little and it made such a cute picture that we decided to take a shot of the grand kids in a similar pose. (Different flowers, of course!)

Luckily they didn't try smelling this flower. I doubt the bug would have bit them, but they would have scared it away and I would have missed this great photo.

4. In the Car

On that same visit, these three road together in the teacup. This was the closest thing to a car I could find in my photos I don't remember why they were so serious. It looks as if they were trying to hide from something.

5. Straw(s)

This is one of my favorite archived photos. These two grandsons lived with us for awhile. They and my youngest daughter had a lot of fun together. There is no way the oldest grandson would share a drink with anyone now, separate straws or not!

Silver Dollar City has picnic areas like this one all through the park. There is a wide variety of foods available to purchase there, including funnel cakes (yes, they shared the one in the photo). We usually take snacks in with us and buy one meal at the park.

Next time we go, I will take the list of SHS prompts with me so I can have current pictures to share. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy these. Thank you for stopping by. If you would like to see more of my Scavenger Hunt Sunday photos, just click on the 'my photos' tab at the top of the page.

Thank you for visiting. I would love for you to let me know you were here by leaving a comment below.

If you would like to participate in the fun, click on the link below. I would enjoy seeing your photo interpretations of the prompts. I try to look at and comment on all the bloggers who participate.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 7-13-14

This weekend we took a road trip to Kentucky. Usually we cross the bridges over the Mississippi River when it's dark, so I never get any good pictures of the area. This time we crossed during the day and I was able to get some good photos. I am using a few of them for this weeks Scavenger Hunt.

1. Sunglasses

We were stopped for the night when I remembered it was time to post SHS pictures. I downloaded the pictures I had taken during the day, hoping to find some I could use. I squealed when I saw this one. I had forgotten about it. It fit the prompt as if I had planned it!

2. Summer

This was taken from just above the Mississippi River.  I grabbed this picture while photographing the barges. I was hoping the couple didn't notice. When I enlarged the picture, however, I saw that the dude was looking right at me. Oh, well, hopefully he wasn't upset with me.

3. Outside

This is one of my favorite bridges. Joe stopped so I could stand outside the car for this photo.

4. Green

Everything in this shot seemed to be some shade of green. There was quite a bit of green in most of the photos I took today.

5. Healing

This is one of my grandson's favorite shirts. It seems to fit the healing prompt in a round about way.

I hope you enjoyed my post for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday. If you did, I would love for you to leave a comment.

Thanks for stopping by.
