Memories from a Busy Day and Other Times

Prompts for Sunday's Scavenger Hunt are double, Friday, memories, busy day and where I stand.

1. Double

This weekend Joe and I helped my brother, Joe, with some remodeling work. If you have a Joe in your family, you probably already know what characters they can be. Both my Joes are like 'joke' without the 'k'. In this photo they look a little mild, but they are usually double trouble!

2. Friday

This trailer doesn't look like much, but it is sturdy despite the fancy contraption Joe rigged up to keep the fender from flapping. He was getting it ready to do some heavy hauling on Friday.

3. Memories

We had one little snow, so I grabbed the camera and took a few quick photos. We don't get many snows around here and I don't have photos of most of them, so I wanted this one for my 'memories' sake. It was a bonus to have found this nativity scene to include in the photo.

4. Busy Day

My nephew is helping with the remodeling job. It was a busy day for him. He was working hard taking up the old tile.

 5. Where I Stand

If you are a good hunter, you can see what I saw from where I stand or stood. It was almost dark when I took this photo. The deer were in the yard not far from my brother's house. They must have thought they were hidden from view, because I got six or eight shots before they moved on. Too bad I only had my Canon and not a rifle!

Hope you enjoy my interpretations of this week's prompts. I would love for you to leave a comment. Now I'm off to look at your photos and leave a comment. Have a great week.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 9-21-14

Hello. Welcome to my blog and Scavenger Hunt Sunday post for this week. I confess--all but two of the photos for the prompts are from my archives. Joe and I are still busy cleaning out our old storage and setting up in the new Flea Market Storage. We are making daily progress, but still have a long way to go. I carry my camera daily, but find little time to use it.

1. Window

The Wilderness Church at #SDC Attractions Silver Dollar City has a large picture window. The first time I was in this building, the breathtaking view was of Table Rock Lake. Now, over forty years later, the trees have grown up so you can no longer see the lake. In one direction you now see the Oak Trail School House. The building is set up like it would have been long ago with old school desks with a slate and chalk on each desk.Visitors can sit in the chairs, write or draw on the slate and talk to a teacher.

If you look out the window to the left, you will see a homestead with a small cabin and a loft. The garden is beyond that. On down the hill from the cabin is a barn with lots of farm animals.

2. Square

I had a hard time finding something square in my photos, even though I took this one just a few days ago. In keeping with a olden days theme, this is a part from something not many had, but those who did were grateful for the time it saved them. It did not require electricity to work it. Can you guess what it is?

This square room is attached to the abandoned school building. The gymnasium also had such a room. They were built to hold a huge forced air wood furnace that heated the school building.

3. Picture in Picture

The only picture in a picture I could find was this one my husband sneaked of me dumping water from a pitcher we used at our writers conference last May. How embarrassing!

4. Curve

Joe and I walked a trail at our local lake earlier this week. It was nearly dark by the time we walked out of the trees. I love the way the road curves around the lake in this area. Notice the stone steps that lead into the woods on the right of the road? It leads into one of the many trails our lake / park has to explore.

5. Pattern

I happened to have my camera out when we passed by this house in Kentucky last winter. The diagonal 9-patch pattern of bricks on the worked into the brick chimney caught my attention. It probably has a special significance, but I don't know what.

I hope you enjoyed your visit and my interpretation of the prompts for this week. I would love for you to leave a comment.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8-10-14

Welcome to my version of Scavenger Hunt Sunday. Today's photos came from my archives. We have been busy this week cleaning out storage. Judging by our current progress, the job will be finished in "two weeks" (movie quote courtesy of Joe), or at least before the first snow--I hope!  My camera is feeling lonely. OK, here goes...

1. Bathroom Selfie

I couldn't decide which I liked best, so I posted them all. My grandson was trying out a new hair style and look after his bath several years ago. I happened along just in time to take the shots for him. I hope it counts as a selfie!

2. Hop, Skip or Jump

This guy hopped inside the dish, but he couldn't jump out. This was one trick he should have skipped!

3. Creative Angle

The angle I was 'creating' was the letter 'A' but decided to add upside down to it just for fun.

4. Box or Package

We use boxes of all shapes and sizes to add interest to our antique show booth. Many of the purchases are packaged up and given as gifts. This type of items is popular because they are small, yet bring back memories of fun times together for families.

5. Unfocused

Even though this image is a bit out of focus, it's obvious that most of us wouldn't want to get close enough for a good look.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks scavenger hunt. I would love for you to leave a comment. If you would like to see what photos others used for the prompts, just click the link below.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8-3-14

Joe and I spent the last few days working in our out of town storage to organize and get ready for a huge clutter sale. I took my camera and the list of prompts for this week's scavenger hunt, but never took the camera out of the case. Saturday was my last chance to get the photos I needed.

As we worked, we were plagued by wasps. Joe found the nest and doused it with white gas (for use in lanterns) because we had no wasp spray. I have never seen such an effective remedy! Immediately wasps fell from the nest. They didn't move. at. all. It killed them dead. Wasp spray or even gasoline doesn't stop them all immediately. There are always some persistent ones that have to be finished off 'by foot.'

Caution: If you use this method, do not light a match or smoke!

As soon as Joe confirmed the danger of being stung was passed, I got my camera and went for some documentation. I took three great photos, then looked in the view window.

[NO CARD IN CAMERA]

was all I saw. I went to my purse to get a card.

NO CARD IN PURSE--NO CARD IN CAMERA BAG--NO CARD ANYWHERE!

When you see a shot, don't hesitate, just take it. You never know when an emergency might arise and you desperately need such a photo! I had to look through a lot of random photos to find some that were appropriate for this weeks hunt.

1. Two Things

This picture was taken on mother's day before last. My mother and I share two things--we both wear glasses and we both have a square chin. A third way we are alike is neither of us are comfortable having our picture taken. I have finally realized the stress we feel being in front of the lens contributes greatly to the 'bad pictures' we take. I am working on getting over it. My daughter, in the middle, has never minded being in front of the lens.

2. Animal

This animal, my daughter's cat, likes to stand in the window and watch the people who are on the outside. Does that make her a reverse peeping tom?

3. Handwriting

This concrete structure is all that remains of the old blue bridge that used to carry motorists across Highway 75 just south of Okmulgee, OK. It was once in the Guinness Book of World Records. A railroad bridge ran under it and a dirt road under the railroad bridge. At the time, it was rare to have three roadways crossing the same area.

The new highway runs parallel with the old one. The structure that is left is covered with hand writing. The graffiti pays tribute to a soldier who lost his life in service for our freedom several years ago. The young man's childhood home was very close to this bridge.

4. Frozen

I walked into the bedroom to find this old air conditioner blowing hot air, but with 3/4" of ice on the coils. It was frozen up because it was low on freon. Joe was already asleep in the other room, but luckily I remembered how to fix it. I turned it to fan only rather than cool. Less than ten minutes later the ice was gone and I was able to turn it back to cool and it worked just fine.

5. Nap Time

One of the antique shows we set up at earlier this year had a dining area. No one seemed to be eating in it, but when nap time came, this guy knew right where to go!

That's all for today. Thank you for stopping by. I would love for you to leave a comment to let me know you were here. If you would like to participate in Scavenger Hunt Sunday, just click the like below.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

This week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday has an Independence Day theme. It is a great privilege to live in a country where we still have freedom to worship and serve God in the way we choose. Despite the unrest our nation is in, it is our responsibility as Americans to do all we can to preserve that freedom. One person may not be able to do much, but if all will do a little, it will make a difference. Whatever else you choose to do, pray and believe in your heart. No one can take that freedom from you.

Now on to the prompts for this week:

1. Red

Watermelon is one of our favorite things to eat on the 4th of July. Besides the good taste, it is hydrating. Don't forget to drink (or eat) plenty of water when you are in the heat this summer.

2. White

The grandchildren had fun with the fireworks on the 4th. I practiced with my camera. I was too lazy to pull out the tripod, so I just held my breath and snapped the shutter. I was amazed to get such a great shot that included the dark side of the moon. This photo does qualify for 'white', I hope.

3. Blue

The lake was a beautiful shade of blue last week. Swimming is one of the few things the kids would rather do than play on electronics!

4. Play

Speaking of play, the older one didn't really want to, but after I took the Nook, he got involved. They both had a great time!

5. Sparkle

The fireworks were a lot of fun. My camera battery ran down before they ended, but I did get a few good ones. This was my favorite. My grandson had just lit a firecracker and as he ran away, carrying the punk, this guy seemed to follow him. I call him Sparky.

Thank you for dropping by today. I hope you enjoyed your visit. I have shared this blog post to Scavenger Hunt Sunday. You can click on the link below to participate.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 6-22-14

Scavenger Hunt Sunday has been a challenge for me this summer. I'm not complaining, though. I cherish the time I get to spend with my grandchildren. They are growing up so fast. My time with them is limited. I used my phone camera for most of today's photos.

1. Unplugged

Yesterday we set up at the indoor flea market. The boys were easily entertained with electronic devices. The nook holds a charge well, so it was unplugged. The cell phone is no longer usable for calling, but still connects to the internet for games and everything else, but it doesn't work unless it is plugged in.

2. Unassuming

This word was hard to attach to a photo. By the time I looked it up in the dictionary, I was tired of the game. I saw this picture my grandson took of me and decided to use it. I'm not saying it fits me exactly, but it is my goal to be unassuming. The word unassuming means modest, lacking in arrogance, pleasant, or polite.

3. Unleashed

Dairy ants use aphids to farm for food. They drive them in herds back to their homes and milk them. When these bugs are unleashed in gardens, they can be quite destructive. This is the first time I have seen them in such big numbers. I don't want them in my yard, but I was happy to get this photo of them at work in the woods!

4. Unapproachable

This display made me laugh, so I snapped a shot of it. I didn't realized at the time that it fit this prompt. If you go too long without deodorant, you will become unapproachable!

5. Unaware

This photo was not easy to get. Every time this little one saw me with the camera, he would stop what he was doing and shoot me a huge smile. I had to catch him unaware to get a photo of him playing. I did get several good smiling pictures in the process.

This one was unapproachable on the boulder--about 12 feet from the ground. It looks as though he was unaware of the camera. He has a book in his hand most of the time when he's not on the nook.

I hope you enjoyed my take on the prompts for this week. If you would like to participate in Scavenger Hunt Sunday, just click on the link below for instructions.
