Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8-31-14

August ends today. I barely even knew it was here. This year is flying by--no wonder I'm exhausted!

Joe and I have worked hard this summer. We are excited to see the progress we have made in our quest to organize the storage building. Within a few weeks we should be ready to have a 'clearance sale.' We have been fine-tuning our resale/antique business in hopes of making it more manageable during the years we should-but-will-never-be-able-to retire. My response to today's prompts give a peak into our plans for the future of our business.

1. Back to School

School has already begun for most children, but as a home school mom, I always waited until after labor day to start classes. This is the second year that I have had no children to teach. I ran across this book in storage and decided to add it to my personal library anyway.

2. Family

Several years ago, my brothers and I decided to start a reunion for our immediate family. The girlfriend of my nephew took this family photo with my Canon. It amazed me to see so many people all looking at the photographer, and most even were smiling!

3. Books

Joe and I share a love of books. We have bought out many book sales over the past few years. He once had a used book finding/locating service. I have wanted a used bookstore for years. A few weeks ago we happened upon a storage unit / flea market a few miles from our home. Of course, we had to stop and shop.

We were intrigued with its success and decided to set up a book store in one of the units. For the next few weeks, Joe will be building bookshelves and I will be filling them with books. Not only is it an exciting venture, but is a giant step toward making our 'non-retirement' easier to manage.

4. Portrait

The building we had our family reunion in had a row of these chairs. They were great for portraits. I thought of the old movies where the stairways lined with paintings of long deceased family members sitting in such chairs.
5. Detail

Joe has tried to get me to sell this old pine box for years.
His 'practical' question for stuff I want to keep is always "What will you use it for?" I don't always know. I just know I like it. Today as we loaded books into the truck to take to our 'store', Joe came up with a great use for it--for me. We took it to the 'store' and set it up on the base of an old table, so that the lid of the box would open down. The second photo shows the detail and age of the box. It should make a great desk for the used bookstore once we are finished with it!

Thank you for visiting my blog today. I hope you enjoyed your peek into my world. I would love for you to leave a comment. Today's post is linked here:

  2. Wow you do love books. How neat that your family gets together for reunions. Your detail shot was really neat and it sounds like a great way to utilize that box.

    1. Ida, I'm glad to see you back. The reunions are fun. Most of the family lives within a 50 mile radius, but hardly have time to get together. Setting aside a reunion time insures at least one time a year that we get to see each other. Thanks for your comments.
