Scavenger Hunt Sunday 9-21-14

Hello. Welcome to my blog and Scavenger Hunt Sunday post for this week. I confess--all but two of the photos for the prompts are from my archives. Joe and I are still busy cleaning out our old storage and setting up in the new Flea Market Storage. We are making daily progress, but still have a long way to go. I carry my camera daily, but find little time to use it.

1. Window

The Wilderness Church at #SDC Attractions Silver Dollar City has a large picture window. The first time I was in this building, the breathtaking view was of Table Rock Lake. Now, over forty years later, the trees have grown up so you can no longer see the lake. In one direction you now see the Oak Trail School House. The building is set up like it would have been long ago with old school desks with a slate and chalk on each desk.Visitors can sit in the chairs, write or draw on the slate and talk to a teacher.

If you look out the window to the left, you will see a homestead with a small cabin and a loft. The garden is beyond that. On down the hill from the cabin is a barn with lots of farm animals.

2. Square

I had a hard time finding something square in my photos, even though I took this one just a few days ago. In keeping with a olden days theme, this is a part from something not many had, but those who did were grateful for the time it saved them. It did not require electricity to work it. Can you guess what it is?

This square room is attached to the abandoned school building. The gymnasium also had such a room. They were built to hold a huge forced air wood furnace that heated the school building.

3. Picture in Picture

The only picture in a picture I could find was this one my husband sneaked of me dumping water from a pitcher we used at our writers conference last May. How embarrassing!

4. Curve

Joe and I walked a trail at our local lake earlier this week. It was nearly dark by the time we walked out of the trees. I love the way the road curves around the lake in this area. Notice the stone steps that lead into the woods on the right of the road? It leads into one of the many trails our lake / park has to explore.

5. Pattern

I happened to have my camera out when we passed by this house in Kentucky last winter. The diagonal 9-patch pattern of bricks on the worked into the brick chimney caught my attention. It probably has a special significance, but I don't know what.

I hope you enjoyed your visit and my interpretation of the prompts for this week. I would love for you to leave a comment.

  1. Oh I like your set. It's a shame the view out the picture window has changed so you can no longer see the lake from it.
I really liked your Square shots, both were interesting. Also liked the Curve and Pattern shots and it's fun to see your photo too.
So thanks for stopping by my blog. You asked how I got the picture of the farmers field. I was actually up on what is called, Scenic Loop and from there you can view the hills on the other side of the canyon.

    1. Ida, thanks for your comments. I do miss the old view. The yellow square shot is the treadle from an old sewing machine. I love the Scenic roads. Several years ago Joe, my (now married) daughter and I traveled from Gadston, AL to Chattanooga, TN on such a route. It took us most of the day, because we had to stop at every overlook to take pictures and explore. Sadly, I didn't yet have my Canon.

  2. Love that picture window and your curve shot is good. I like that chimney pattern too.

I believe you are correct that when color film first came out it was expensive both to make and process.

    1. Abrianna, thanks for stopping by. I also love the curve shot. I have added it to a folder of pictures to add Bible verses to--one of my many projects-in-waiting!
