Scavenger Hunt Sunday--Week 18

I can't believe it is already Sunday. The weeks seem to be getting shorter and shorter. I did manage to take some photos that I hoped would work well with the prompts. Some of them I'm not sure about, but here goes anyway!

1. Unusual Crop

Once a year the city decides to trim the trees that have branches near the power lines to reduce the chance of them falling across the lines and causing power outages. This unusual cropping of a tree near our house is typical of the work they usually do. It seems to me that the guys doing the trimming could be a little more artistic, but then, maybe I just don't have the proper appreciation for this type of art!

2. Details

Bicycle riding is probably the best and least stressful form of exercise there is for aging bodies. I have bought several of them (used, of course) over the past 15 years or so only to find that they have problems not worth fixing. Last spring I found this one at a thrift store for only $35 on half price day for senior citizens. I got out my handy dandy smart found and looked up the details of this "townie". I found out it was actually a very expensive bike (by my standards, at least). The best detail was that the frame was aluminum making it light enough that I could load it into the truck by myself. I got it home a wobbled around in the yard for a while until I got comfortable enough took to take it to the streets. I am planning to spend many hours on it this spring and summer and hopefully lose a few pounds in the process.

3. On the ground

I was at the Tulsa Flea Market today. I knew the perfect prompt for "on the ground". I went to Mary's booth to snatch the photo. As luck would have it, she wasn't there, so I photographed the area where she sits on the floor caning all day.

Nearly every week for the past 16 years you could find Mary at this market sitting barefooted on the floor working on the chairs. She explained to me that it is much easier to maneuver the chairs around as needed to rework them if she is sitting on the same level with them. She uses her bare feet often as she works to aid her in holding the chairs in place.

Mary has two dogs that she brings with her to the market. The one in this photo stays quietly in the background as she works.

4. Blooper

The schnauzer, on the other hand, kept trying to get in front of the camera. I thought he had finally gone over to lay down and I aimed the camera for one last shot of Mary at work, only to find him in front of the lens just as I snapped the shutter.

Another Blooper

This girl walked up to my booth today. I hesitated a second trying to decide whether to ask to take her picture or just shoot. Finally I grabbed the camera and framed the picture. I intended to zoom in enough to get the shot of just her head with those cool dog ears, but I was afraid she would look up and run away so I just snapped it. I pegged it for a real blooper but when I view it I was pleased that I actually captured so many people shopping my booth at one time.

5. Color

Not long after my blooper shot, this girl came along. This time I asked for the photo. She was happy to oblige. She had just came from the circus next door where she got her face painted. This was just what I needed to fulfill the color prompt.

Thank you all for visiting my blog today. I promise to do better next week.

I shared these photos at the link below:

  1. Like Mary, there are many activities that will find me sitting in the floor or on the ground instead of bending, stooping, or squatting. It's been ages since I was in Tulsa at the same time to catch the flea market. Have a blessed Sunday.

    1. Thank you, Karen. I have done my share of sitting on the ground. When I was younger it was so much more comfortable than sitting on chairs.

    1. Kathy, He really was a cutie. It was when I sat down on the ground to get a better shot of Mary at work that he really got his face in mine. :)

  4. I am laughing my *** off! Such awesome photos but the commentary is just too funny! I smacked my head when I saw your crop photo as I am often complaining on how they cut out limbs leaving trees so misshaped they need to be just cut down. The chair that Mary is caning is the exact chairs we have in our dining room. I had so much fun stopping by your post today, thank you.

  6. O.K., when I went to your blog through Google+ it only showed me the Feb. 17th post. Went to SHS and found this one-the right one for this week. Anyway, great shot of the hair and of circus girl.

    1. Abrianna, thanks for your comments on both sets of photos. I get so frustrated trying to make sense of my blogging set up. I have to delete so many things because I couldn't figure out how to edit them properly.

  7. In your On The Ground photo... I love how the arm in the painting behind looks like it is her arm. I love it!

    1. I thought that, too and considered using it for my "blooper" shot. Every time I walked up to her booth I had to do a double take because those arms looked so real. Thanks for visiting my blog.
