Scavenger Hunt Sunday - Week 10

This post of Scavenger Hunt Sunday starts a new year of photos. My personal theme for today's prompts is time with grand kids.

1. Photographer's Choice
This place on the lake holds many memories. I first came to this spot with my Sunday School class. At the time the rock walls were intact and the area was safe. In the recent years they have braced it up and put fences on the ends to discourage entrance. There were about 40 of us including the Youth Director and Pastor with their families. We had a Hawaiian Luau, an appropriate setting right there on the lake. It was the most memorable of all our parties. Another time we fished off the lower wall, which does not show in this picture.

These 2 are about a year and a half apart in age. They get along quite well (Cousins, not siblings). She had adapted the 'look' for most of the pictures I took of her that day.

I love how well these 3 get along!

2. Lunch
My husband loves to hunt for mushrooms. Most are found close to the ground. This one was quite a surprise. We don't usually look up high in the trees. It took teamwork and a big stick to get it down. If you look closely you can see my husband's old hat that he carefully placed at the base of the tree to keep it from getting damaged. :)

It had the attributes of an edible mushroom. He took it home and looked it up first to be sure. It is called a Bearded Tooth. It is not only edible, but considered desirable. It was very tasty! (We still didn't feed it to the kids). It is considered rare.
3. Starts with the letter 'G'

Grand kids starts with G. The above are 3 of my best reasons for taking pictures in the first place. They love coming to this place to walk and play. They like to pose for pictures and I gladly oblige them.
4. My Town
When it got too dark to play anymore it seemed appropriate to take a picture the sunset on this beautiful lake from which my town gets its water.
5. Words to Live By

After such a fun day spent with these wonderful grand kids, I thought of the words to an old song:

Only one life too soon it will pass.
Only what's done for Christ will last.
Only one chance to do His will.
So live for Jesus all your days.
It's the only life that pays.
When you recall
You have but one life.

I've wasted time doing a lot of things in my life, but I never feel like the time I've spent for God or with these precious children is wasted. They grow up so fast. Time lost can never be brought back. These fun times spent together will stay with them and with me for the rest of our lives. I hope to be able to do more of it during this New Year.

  2. Wonderful set. Your grandkids are lucky to be able to spend quality time with you. Loved the look on the little girls face. I love mushroom hunting but we generally only look for Morels here in our area.

  3. Ida, my husband loves morels, but we haven't found any around here. Several years ago we found a big bunch of chicken mushrooms. We froze them and used them in place of chicken in some dishes. They look and taste like chicken.
